Liberty Lane is beginning to make a new life for herself in London, after the events of Death at Dawn. But it looks as if her prospects will be torn apart when her friend Daniel Suter is involved in a murder case.

Two dancers, rich and notorious Columbine and poor, unknown Jenny come to blows on stage, to the delight and scandal of fashionable London. A few days later, Columbine has been poisoned and Jenny is under arrest in Newgate, facing hanging.

At cost of some heartache to herself, Liberty must try to save Jenny, but the stakes are high when the fate of the naïve young dancer is tied up with the interests of powerful and ruthless people.
