It wasn’t uncommon for outlaw biker gang members to put out contract hits on federal prosecutors and agents alike, eliminate material witnesses, and murder informants before trials. Much like a terrorist organization, the gangs ruled by fear, orchestrating a network of criminal masterminds whose mission it was to disrupt and chill investigators into club objectives. They were organized killers. . . .

He motioned to the others to stop talking. Their faces froze in panic.

Something had gone terribly wrong. Bird reached for the phone, his nerves shattered, his fingers thick and awkward on the keypad as he dialed Beef. A thousand scenarios raced through his mind.

“What’s happened?” Bird’s voice was tight, urgent.

“Get out,” Beef ordered.

“What’s going on?” Bird pressed.
