Meet Rowland Sinclair, gentleman and bohemian artist living in 1931 Sydney, who shares the family mansion with a poet, a painter, and a feminist sculptress.

One day, Sinclair receives terrible news: kindred spirit Uncle Rowly has been murdered in his home. To find those guilty of the crime, Sinclair infiltrates the echelons of the old and new guard. Among them are a few "right thinking men," conservatives convinced of a Communist takeover and determined to combat it.
