Lucas' father finally manages to land a job as the super in an apartment building where the actor Martin Gerard lives with his family. For reasons that he can't begin to fathom Juliette has taken a shine to him, and he begins to feel a mother's love for the first time. Add to this that the oldest Gerard children, twins, Tansy, and Paris have befriended him, and Lucas is just about in heaven.
Then on one horrible night everyone's life takes a terrible turn. Paris is murdered, Tansy is raped, and Lucas is accused. He spends the next twenty years of his life in prison.
MERCY picks up the story of Lucas on the eve of his release from prison. It follows him as he makes his way back into society, and as he once again crosses paths with the Gerard family. When I first sat down to read Mercy I was confused, and had a hard time following the plot. However, Ms. Brashear did an excellent job of weaving a story that drew me in, and had me using every spare moment I could sneak in a day to read. It didn't take long for me to no longer be confused, but to instead be immersed in the lives of all the characters.
Book Summary
The truth could save her...or destroy her
Twenty years ago, Lucas Walker was seventeen, in love with Tansy Gerard and framed for the murder of Tansy's twin brother. Now he's back in New York, an ex-con forbidden to get near her...the only one who believes she's in danger from the man who orchestrated that fateful night.
Reclusive, ethereal Tansy is lost in a world where her brother is still alive. Lucas manages secret meetings with her that are a balm to his scarred soul...yet he's all too aware that his very presence could shatter the illusion that keeps Tansy safe. To protect her, Lucas must put his life on the line to prove what really happened...and risk that Tansy could be lost to him forever.
