Maon MacLeod is close to losing his human side as he prefers being in his wolf form and racing through Egypt under the DESERT MOON. But when he hears voices, something long forgotten pulls at him. One of those voices is his long-awaited true mate.
Adaira is rather proud of her spinsterhood. Never will she turn her life over to any man. She is determined to live her life happily yet also alone. With the promise of a place to set up a free library, she joins her parents to help them with their archaeological expedition. Never dreaming that what she would dig up would be a man. Although she thinks he must be a bit crazy, because he believes he is hundreds of years old, he stirs something deep within her. Something she had never experienced.
DESERT MOON is book seven of author Lucy Monroe's Children of the Moon series. Maon is a shifter who had hidden himself, protecting a long-forgotten temple, trying to overcome the regrets of his long life. As a healer, he was unable to heal his own people from the black death, so chose the desert as his punishment. This Guardian didn't expect to find his true mate after all this time and Adaira was nothing he could have dreamed of. But as it turns out, she is exactly what he needs. Adaira's parents were neglectful to say the least. They were used to being a bit blunter and more typical high-born people of that time. They believed because they were Lord and Lady, they deserved to take whatever they wished. Adaira was lucky to have had the good influence of her grandmother to keep her levelheaded. She didn't expect Maon and, only when she knew no other way, did she agree to marry him.
I think readers will enjoy the travels through Egypt with this couple and learning about a different culture - something that Ms. Monroe does very well. DESERT MOON is an eyeopener about the ancient way of life for the desert people, and adherence to a strict code of conduct. Even if you were not Egyptian, they protected the women's reputation - whether the woman liked it or not. Adaira found it super annoying.
My only minor complaint is that a glossary of terms for her Children of the Moon books would be helpful for readers. I have read the other six but, because the last book was in 2019, I found myself trying to remember what exactly a conriocht, asmundr, or Chrechte were.
Nevertheless, if you love historical offerings, shifters, women who are strong and know their mind, enjoy a sweet yet steamy romance then DESERT MOON is what you need to get your hands on. This long-awaited addition to the Children of the Moon series is a well written, enjoyable escape read!
