Rick Cahill is working his last case as a private eye that involves late-night stake-outs, thugs and guns. From here on out, he’ll be a family man, sitting in his office doing mundane background checks for corporations. Several things have brought him to this end … his fiancé and soon to be wife Leah, the baby they are having and the secret he’s just learned about his own health.

Rick’s best friend and fellow private eye Moira McFarland asks Rick to keep an eye on her twenty-four-year-old son Ryan for a few days. His girlfriend Gabby got a restraining order against him. He and his mom had some very heated words over it, and now Ryan won’t answer his phone. Rick figures this will be a cinch … just go find Ryan and tell him to call his mom. However, his visit to Ryan’s apartment and subsequent stakeout when he follows Ryan to the condo community where his girlfriend lives, proves to be anything but simple and easy. Ryan goes into another condo to visit an older lady, then Rick sees a younger man go into Gabby’s condo. When Ryan leaves, he goes to his office, then returns home. The next day, Ryan’s boss is found murdered and Ryan is the number one suspect. He truly is now missing, since he is on the run.

Rick begins to follow the mysterious persons he saw on his stakeout and this simple case takes on some very odd twists and turns. Other players enter the scene, and there are just too many puzzle pieces to put together to make sense of this whole case. Rick barely stays one step ahead of the police. Can he find Ryan before they do and clear him?

LAST REDEMPTION is Matt Coyle’s eighth novel in his Rick Cahill series. I’ve been on several adventures with Rick, and this one is as thrilling as the rest. Perhaps he’s a little more cautious this time, considering the medical secret his harboring, but he still gets into plenty of scrapes and gets himself banged up. He’s surrounded by a plethora of supporting characters … good, bad and somewhere in between. The storyline starts off slow, but then builds to an extraordinary and tense conclusion. LAST REDEMPTION is indeed a suspenseful thriller you do not want to miss.
