Memories are difficult to give up.  They invade your consciousness when you least expect it. Finding something to take their place is the answer. Heading toward a new future instead of living in the past is not easy but basically necessary for a happy life.

But that is easier said than done. And for both characters, their past maintains a tight hold on their lives.

Abby’s life is busy and for the most part satisfying. She invests as much time as possible with her 5-year-old daughter Katie unquestionably the center of her life. Abby is also lucky to have her sister-in-law nearby. Abby’s husband never returned home after his fourth deployment. But his family has always been there for both Abby and Katie.

Her business is thriving and a combination of luck and lots of talent Abby hopes working with Grant to furnish his cabin home will earn real creds.

Abby is accustomed to having her creative talents dismissed by her successful parents and sister. Grant’s confidence in her and his compliments help raise her self-esteem. Something intrinsically so important.

Whiskey River was a good place to land. Abby realized that coming there to be with her husband's family has been good for her and Katie. Working on Grant’s home meant spending time with this gentle caring ex-marine. His patience seemed to know no bounds. Abby was determined that their relationship remains as friends. Katie was beginning to look forward to their times together.

For now, Abby was content with their working relationship and Grant’s support. The burning question was how to maintain that healthy distance. Unexpectedly trouble for Abby and her daughter is heading their way. Abby is going to need all her strength bolstered by her friends and family in Whiskey River.

Welcome back to the McAllisters series by Julia Justiss. THE COWBOY is the second tale centered around the three brothers and their lives at the Triple A ranch. In THE COWBOY, Grant has joined Duncan at their ranch. Ranch work is never done. Grant was grateful to return home after his time in the marines. Times and expectations fluctuate as much as the weather with ranching. And Julia Justiss illustrates the nature of the cowboy and rancher in this series. THE COWBOY also factors in the importance of family and friends for support emotional, physical and financial. All hands-on deck at the family ranch.
