CONFESSIONS ON THE 7:45 is a psychological thriller featuring protagonist Selena Miller. She is late one evening getting home and the train suddenly stops. A young woman by the name of Martha is sitting next to Selena. They start chatting and feel comfortable with each other. Martha shares her secret and Selena feeling comfortable with Martha tells her that she thinks her husband is sleeping with the nanny. In parting, Martha says what if your problems disappear? They part ways, never to see each other again. Or so Selena thought.
Then the nanny disappears, coincidence? Maybe, maybe not. In alternating chapters, the reader learns more about Selena and her failing marriage, her love of her children, and her relationship with her ex Will, who is now the family lawyer. Who is Martha, and what does she want? Her husband's infidelities finally catch up with him to the point of being dangerous and Selena needs to figure out what she wants to do in her marriage. Stay for the boys or leave, but fate takes that decision out of her hands. Her seemingly perfect life, the perfect husband will never be the same.
The reader is swept away into each character's story, a diabolical story with murder and family secrets that keeps the reader turning the pages. I love a good mystery/thriller and Lisa never fails to create a story that will have the reader wanting more. The lies, deceit, and an ending that totally surprised me! I have not read a Lisa Unger novel in a long time and she certainly did not disappoint.
So if you are looking for a book that will become one of the best of the year, well in my mind, similar to STRANGERS ON A TRAIN this one is for you! I totally recommend CONFESSIONS ON THE 7:45!
