If you are expecting an action-filled, dangerously twisted storyline when reading a Catherine Coulter book, then DEADLOCK will fulfill all your expectations. It is really awesome to read a book and have no idea what to expect next and with Ms. Coulter's Savich and Sherlock that is what you get.
The book begins with a medium trying to tell a young woman that her deceased grandfather has a message about where the "Big Take" can be found. Not buying it, the woman leaves and just barely. With the help of F.B.I. agent Dillon Savich, she escapes an attempted kidnapping.
The main storyline involves three boxes with jigsaw puzzle pieces sent personally to Savich. Fellow agent Pippa Cinelli recognizes the puzzle as her hometown of St. Lumis, Maryland - minus a few macabre additions to the idyllic scene. She goes undercover to try to find out why those puzzles were being sent to Savich. It seems someone wants Savich to suffer and it all has something to do with someone in St. Lumis, but the question is - why and who? Readers are treated to a strange little town, with its secrets and dramas. Her cover is blown but, with the help of the local Chief of Police and former Philadelphia detective, Matthew Wilde, continue to get to the truth.
DEADLOCK will have you completely glued to the pages as the story lines are intertwined expertly, flowing smoothly from one to the next. The medium storyline features a younger woman, married to an older man, who is caught up in the past by someone who wanted the answers and is willing to take desperate steps. Rebekah Manvers learns a few very tough truths, that more than answers the questions she has always had and leads her to take steps for herself. Coming into this is agent Griffin Hammersmith, who adds a few jealous and funny moments as her bodyguard, and Rebekah's friend and partner Kit Jarrett, who also lightens the mood with her bubbly personality.
There is some romance especially with our main agents showing their happily married side, and some things hinted at. As with most of Ms. Coulter's books, it is the action and mystery that are the key elements. The characters are very realistic with a variety of personalities, quirks and mystery. There are also a number of suspects and those you don't suspect at all - and maybe should.
If you love the F.B.I. series you will find DEADLOCK to be an fabulous addition to the series, with it's humor, action, drama, touches of romance, mayhem and fascinating characters - not to mention the amazing twists and surprises.
