Former CIA Agent Merry Wrath has her hands full. Her best friend, Kelly, signed up their Girl Scout Troop to participate in the Civil War re-enactment of the Battle at Idiot Creek. The Battle of Idiot Creek was historically insignificant, ending quickly when a skunk named Orville sprayed the Rebels. To Merry’s continued annoyance, the re-enactment is three days long and barely follows the “real” story. Worse yet, her pride has her trapped wearing 19th century dresses, corsets included. However, the realism, or lack thereof, is the least of her worries as she’s dealing with the gambling habits of Betty, one of her fearless Girl Scouts, and a potential rumble with the Magnolia Girls. The last thing on Merry’s mind is murder but the discovery of an amputated leg has her CIA senses on the alert. Can Merry and the Girl Scout Troop survive The Battle of Idiot Creek?

Regarder Gratuit

MUSKET BALL MURDER is the 14th book in the Merry Wrath Mysteries series but can easily be read on its own merits. Leslie Langtry provides readers with enough background history on the characters so readers can thoroughly appreciate this wonderful installment in the series. I’ve read only one previous book and am honestly wondering why I’ve been missing out on this hilarious and delightful series.

I’m not a huge fan of re-enactments, camping, or anything Civil War and yet Leslie Langtry’s quirky sense of humor has made me wish The Battle of Idiot Creek was a real thing. The shenanigans that go on in MUSKET BALL MURDER almost make me want to visit a real re-enactment just to see if any can come close to the hysterical incidents in MUSKET BALL MURDER. I’m really not sure how Merry ended up as a Girl Scout leader (I already have the earlier books added to my TBR list to find out how), but her troop is perfect for her! The antics of her troop, but especially Betty, had me laughing out loud. If you love your cozy mysteries light and humorous with a plethora of suspects to choose from, then MUSKET BALL MURDER is the perfect read for you.

Book Summary

From USA Today bestselling author Leslie Langtry comes a Civil War reenactment, a missing body, and one ex-CIA agent turned Girl Scout Troop leader with hilarious results!

Merry Wrath has a problem. Her Girl Scout Troop co-leader has signed them up to participate in a Civil War reenactment based on the little-known Battle of Idiot Creek. In full 19th century costume, Merry is just hoping she can keep her troop out of trouble.

Unfortunately, things start to fall apart immediately—from the cannon the kids buy with her credit card, to one girl sneaking off at night to beat the other reenactors at poker, to avoiding a rumble between her troop and the haughty Magnolia Girls.

But things take a sharp turn for the worse when a real human leg appears in the pretend amputation tent…only to disappear while Merry's guarding it. The rest of the body doesn’t seem to exist, making Merry wonder if she’s losing her mind... or if there's a murderer among them. To complicate things, Merry's ex CIA handler, Riley, appears as a dashing cavalry officer investigating a real case, her married best friend is swooning over the Sam Elliot-like Provost, and during the battles, a tiny Union soldier appears to be running guerrilla ops that weren’t in the script.

With a group of soldiers threatening Merry, the Sheriff refuses to investigate, and the danger mounting, can Merry prove that there was a murder before the reenactment ends?
