BADGER TO THE BONE is the third book in Shelly Laurenston’s “Honey Badger Chronicles” paranormal series. Like many of Shelly Laurenston’s books – BADGER TO THE BONE has something that will appeal to everyone and not just romance fans. I see the romance in this book, and I enjoy it, but the humor, zany characters, and engrossing storytelling make this book so delish. The heroine of this tale is Max MacKilligan. Unwanted patriarch Freddy MacKilligan is usually the catalyst for any hassle experienced by Max and her sisters. His parentage is their cross to bear. In BADGER TO THE BONE, the MacKilligan sisters have their father’s shenanigans and much more to deal with. BADGER TO THE BONE is a perfect example of why I would desperately love for this series to be turned into a series of live-action films, or at least an anime.
Ze Vargas and Max have an unconventional first meeting, but it’s lucky Ze meets this wild woman. He never new he was actually a jaguar shifter. Their relationship evolves over the course of the book and is slow to turn into a romantic relationship, but the chemistry is there. Max is a woman very much in demand in BADGER TO THE BONE. Various paramilitary groups want her as an operative and try to court her with varying tactics and degrees of success. Her mother brings a lot of baggage and danger to her door. Finally – there’s her father who, as always and in one form another, brings his usual trouble. I love the female characters written by Shelly Laurenston. Whether the good, the bad, or the ugly – these women can handle themselves and throw out a witty one-liner while eviscerating an enemy. The relationships between the MacKilligan sisters is amazing. Max, Charlie, and Stevie fight together and have each other’s back when nobody else does. Shelly Laurenston showcases another example tightknit female friendships with Max and her teammates. I’d love to read more about Streep, Tock, Mads, and Nelle in future books.
BADGER TO THE BONE is a delectable morsel of hilarity, amazing characters, and vengeance. Although these characters are larger-than-life and the situations they find themselves in are like something out of an action flick, there is a little something in these relationships that readers can relate to in their own lives. I love when Max’s BFF Dutch pops up and hope he gets a book of his own one day. I also liked catching a glimpse of bear shifter Hannah. I look forward to Shelly Laurenston’s next book.
Book Summary
She’s the woman he’s been hired to kidnap. But ZeZé Vargas has other ideas . . . like getting them both out of this nightmare alive. Just one problem. She’s crazy. Certifiably. Because while he’s plotting their escape, the petite Asian beauty is plotting something much more deadly . . .
Max “Kill It Again” MacKilligan has no idea what one of her own is doing with all these criminal humans until she realizes that Zé has no idea who or what he is. Or exactly how much power he truly has.
But Max is more than happy to bring this handsome jaguar shifter into her world and show him everything he’s been missing out on. A move that might be the dumbest thing she’s ever done once she realizes how far her enemies will go to wipe her out. Too bad for them Zé is willing to do whatever it takes to keep her alive . . . and honey badgers are just so damn hard to kill!
