Former cop Rick Cahill still isn't over the death of his wife Colleen. He receives a phone call from Leah, the sister of his former training officer and partner, Krista, because Krista was killed in a hit and run. Rick is debating whether he should go to the funeral or not. He finally decides to go, but as he expected, he is not welcomed by his former police colleagues. After the death of his wife, Rick was kicked off the force. 

At the funeral, Rick meets up with Leah. She doesn't believe her sister's death was an accident. Leah wants to hire Rick along with another former detective, Grimes. Rick needs the money, but he's not sure he can work with Grimes. Grimes was the detective on Rick's wife's murder case and always believed that RIck was guilty of the crime. 

Rick feels after doing some investigating that somehow these two murders are connected. There are too many similarities and weird connections between the two. Now, Rick just has to convince Grimes that these two crimes are connected and working on them together will lead them to solve both cases. Along with all of these clues coming together, Rick and Leah develop a deeper bond. Will he let himself find love again? And can Rick piece together all of the facts to find the reasons behind the death of his wife and former partner? 

I have read several of Matt Coyle’s books about Rick Cahill. I have enjoyed all of them, including LOST TOMORROWS. I hope there will still be more stories that focus on Rick. Coyle’s books are always right to the point and he knows how to connect the lines in all of his books. I enjoyed the way he made a cop who everyone had previously hated turn out to be the good guy. I have to say that the storyline with Rick and Leah getting together was easy to see from the start, but that wasn't a bad thing!
