YARN WHIRLED THE ROYAL FAMILY follows the genealogy chart of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip Duke of Edinburgh and includes yarn whirled figures or dolls of each member. Each doll is clearly photographed making the details easy to copy and create.
Pat Olski has a series of these Yarn Whirled books but even so has detailed step by step instructions for creating the basic doll and then embellishing each to emulate the royalty. I think once you have mastered the basic construct then making a group of these should get easier with time. Just reading through the instructions didn\'t make much sense to me as I\'ve never made a yarn whirl object but grabbing some yarn and sitting down to actually do each step made it all come together for me. And that is a testament to Pat Olski. I would like to think that YARN WHIRLED THE ROYAL FAMILY would be a really fun project to do with a child with an adult there to handle some of the more intricate ties. But it should be a real joy to see one of these finished dolls and know that the child was able to create it.
Any yarn enthusiast has a stash of yarn. Odds and ends abound in all of our craft rooms. These yarn whirled characters are just the thing to use your stash for. Little personal note that I found kind of amusing. Prince Charles is shown at his wedding with Camilla. Princess Diana is shown in her wedding gown -- minus the groom -- as is Sarah Ferguson. So there is a great story tell just by looking through YARN WHIRLED THE ROYAL FAMILY by Pat Olski and talking about the family relationships. Great fun to browse and very entertaining to create these dolls.
