In RESTLESS RANCHER we catch up with Austin Hubbard, whom we met briefly in the first book of the Wild Rose Ranch series. First impressions were not that good, but events transpired that left us with a glimmer of hope for Austin’s future.
Jennifer Ryan managed to perform creative surgery on the messed up Austin as we watch him wake up and realize that his life was literally in the dumps. Jennifer Ryan even makes Austin likeable. Quite a feat – a testament to a dedicated talented writer. So welcome to RESTLESS RANCHER where we are reminded that almost everyone deserves a second chance. And thanks to Sonya, Austin will have a chance – thanks to fairy godmother Roxy – hopefully he doesn’t mess up. You just know he will after all he is human and Jennifer Ryan has decided this guy needs all the help he can get. But with Sonya and her friend Roxy in his corner there is hope.
Austin is a victim. He’s been on the receiving end of jealousy and greed from of all people his father. Truth be told not too many people like Mr. Hubbard. Nasty man and dismal husband and father. Sonya has lots of reasons to also be a mess and yet she has found her footing as a forensic accountant. Beautiful, bright and resourceful – just what Austin needs in his world. But Austin is going to have to reach deep to become the man that Sonya deserves.
I began this review by talking about second chances. Most of the characters in RESTLESS RANCHER absolutely deserve a new chance at a better life. Their life stories are toxic examples of how badly some people are treated. So in RESTLESS RANCHER Jennifer Ryan continues on her quest to give some characters’ lives an upgrade so to speak. RESTLESS RANCHER is a lovely addition to the Wild Rose Ranch series that began with Dirty Little Secret where we met Roxy.
Written with a lot of heart and hope this series will make you angry at times. But Jennifer Ryan always ends on a happy note – evidence of her eternal optimism. Take it from me Wild Rose Ranch is worth the price of admission and the first two books are winners.
