Grace has been married for twenty-five years, and a summer in Paris was going to be her anniversary gift to her husband. However, after receiving some unsettling news, Grace ends up heading to Paris alone, a city which holds bittersweet memories of her youth. On the other hand, Audrey wants to escape from a miserable situation at home and since her mother is getting remarried it's the perfect time to find her feet and the much-needed independence she desires. She finds a job and will spend the summer working and living in a Left Bank bookshop. Audrey has her personal struggles but is street smart, too. She is determined to make the most of her time in Paris.

Once Grace and Audrey's paths cross and they become unlikely friends. They help each other through everything that they're struggling with while also finding the joys Paris has to offer. But when Grace's glamorous French grandmother Mimi, Grace's estranged husband David, their daughter Sophia all show up at various points during there trip, trouble follows Grace. This leads to confrontations, past secrets being revealed, and high emotions coming out in the open. What shines throughout all of the struggles of Grace and Audrey's journeys is their friendship and their kindred spirits. We see glimpses of the beauty of Parisian life via the men who romance Grace and Audrey. There's new and old loves spreading joy and happiness. The heart of it the story is about friendship, kindred spirits, and second chances. The book delivers on all counts for me: great characters, amazing setting, and some heartwarming and touching emotions which make me want to hope, fall in love, and maybe visit Paris in summer.
