Nicola Cornick puts a unique spin a suspense-filled book. Her two main characters living similar lives in the same area of England but at different times. She throws in a little time travel along the way. These women must overcome the dangerous situations they find themselves in. Intrigue follows Isabella Gerard as she comes up with a plan to murder her abusive husband. Meanwhile, Fennella Brightwell is looking over her shoulder thinking she sees her abusive ex-husband. A connection to a man leads Isabella to an affair and asking for help. A chance meeting with a friend's brother brings help to Fen with checking into the gown. As one affair ends the other begins and when danger comes to these two women's doors they must work with their friends to set themselves free.
An interesting, intriguing twist on how the past affects the present. The ending was not what I expected. I've read Nicola Cornick before and she always has an interesting take when she writes her books. The time travel I didn't expect. And when I thought I knew who THE WOMAN IN THE LAKE was a couple of times, but I was totally wrong!
Book Summary
In the tradition of the lush historical dramas of Kate Morton, Philippa Gregory and Barbara Erskine, USA TODAY bestselling author Nicola Cornick's The Woman in the Lake is a delicious tale of jealousy, greed, plotting and revenge that spans the generations between decadent Georgian society and present day.
