Sisters Sheena, Darcy and Regan lead separate lives around Boston and NYC; Sheena married, the other two have careers. All that changes when their late uncle's will brings a surprise. Uncle Gavin Sullivan was not popular with all of the family. The ladies certainly didn't know he was going to leave them a run-down hotel in the Florida Keys.

FINDING ME tells how the sisters break away from their normal world to fulfil the strict conditions. They need to run the hotel for a year and then they stand to inherit the rest of Gavin's estate... whatever that might be. Sheena Sullivan Morelli has a husband and teen kids, who do not want to be abandoned for a year. Her own father has decided to move west with his new partner. Only now does Sheena realise that her dad was jealous that Gavin and her mom were friends. Finding out what she can achieve is going to be a large part of Sheena's learning-packed year.

Of course, it wouldn't be much of a story if the hotel wasn't out of date and shabby. Regan has suffered with dyslexia and doesn't like office jobs. She's keen to make a go of the premises. Darcy is an IT specialist who will have to start from scratch, build a website and booking system. Sheena fortunately has experience with her husband's small business, and she knows how quickly refurbishment can eat up money. They are on a tight budget. However, the sisters don't always see eye to eye.

As a business owner myself I enjoyed the twists and turns of the challenge, enhanced by the beautiful sparkling sea and white sands every time the ladies manage to slip away to the nearby beach. The single two discover some friendly local men, but Florida can be dangerous. The deceased Uncle Gavin had been an interesting character, something of a philanthropist and adventurer, keen to dive for gold treasure -- hence his Florida base -- and a good friend to those in genuine need. Rather than a shadowy figure in the past, the author makes this man come to life through those who knew him. The tale continues in the 'Salty Key Inn' series.

I enjoyed every page of this women's fiction tale, a real adventure for modern women with responsibilities. The message is about grabbing opportunities, following unexpected paths and supporting those around you. Judith Keim must have had a great time creating her hotel in need of love, populating it with characters, family tensions and dramas. FINDING ME is worth reading in one go and passing on to your best friend. Then you could chat about the contents for weeks.

Book Summary

Sheena Sullivan Morelli and her sisters, Darcy and Regan, receive the unexpected news that their Uncle Gavin Sullivan, the black sheep of the family, has left them a hotel on the Gulf coast of Florida. The gift comes with a twist. They must live together for one year at the hotel and prepare the hotel to receive guests within a year.

Sheena, eager to escape her role of unappreciated wife and mother, can’t wait for the opportunity to find herself.

Dreams of sitting on the beach sipping margaritas are shattered when they see the property in need of renovation. But they begin their work of meeting the challenge. If they succeed, the bulk of Gavin’s estate will be theirs. Facing the unexpected, working together, the three sisters learn a lot about each other and the gift of family love.
