Noah Bishop (Special Crimes Unit Chief) and Miranda Bishop, his wife and part of the special unit, both "see" what is going to happen and prepare to back up their people, those in the civilian group Haven and those that have been called who haven't joined either group -- yet (Bishop is still working on them.) Hollis Templeton and her partner Reese DeMarco, both SPU members, must lead this group who have answered the "call," hoping that they will be in time to stop whatever is calling them and causing the good people of Prosperity to go crazy.

I am really not sure how to start this review -- Wow -- doesn't say nearly enough, but nothing else comes close. HOLD BACK THE DARK sucked me right in, and I couldn't get out of it. Every time I had to put it down, I found myself thinking about what could possibly be happening next, and hurrying to get back to it. No one can spin a tale that will have you enthralled, amazed and scared, almost at the same time, quite like author Kay Hooper with her Bishop F.B.I. and the Special Crimes Unit books. The main F.B.I. characters of Hollis and DeMarco have been in past books (TOUCHING EVIL for her and BLOOD SINS for him) and I enjoyed catching up with them again and seeing that they continue their partnership, it is always great seeing past characters in new books.

The only drawback I saw with this amazing read was that there were so many characters involved that at times it got a bit confusing. There were the civilian psychic's, special unit members, sheriff, deputies and then add in the victims and the killers which added up to a lot of characters. Then I found that Ms. Hooper had added a characters bio and psychic terms at the end of the book that helped immensely. If I got lost, I would skim to the back, read the bio's or terminology and swing right back into the book.

HOLD BACK THE DARK may have you putting on a night light but if you like a well written, frightening tale of good vs. evil, being fought by people with intriguing extra abilities and have each other's backs then this is the book for you.
