Mary DiNunzio finally has everything she wants. She is married to her
wonderful husband, Anthony, and is a partner at her friend Bennie
Rosato's law firm. Things are about to change. One of Mary's oldest
friends, Simon, was fired from his job for supposedly low sales
numbers. After losing his wife several years ago, Simon is now faced
with the unthinkable: his daughter Rachel has cancer and is in
desperate need of a bone marrow transplant. Simon feels the real
reason he was fired is because his insurance rates will be sky high, and
firing him was the only way for his old boss to avoid this. Mary takes on
the case, but there's one problem: Bennie already represents the
parent company of Simon's former employer. Mary and Bennie argue
over this conflict of interests. Feeling that they are both right, Mary
knows the only thing she can do is quit the firm. Not something either
one of them want, but Mary has no other choice.
On top of everything else going on, Simon is arrested for the sudden
murder of his old boss. Mary knows there is no way Simon killed him,
but she also knows he did meet with him hoping to avoid going to trial.
When Bennie meets with the owner of the parent company, he tells
Bennie if Mary takes on this case to court, he will fire Bennie's firm.
Because this is such a big client for her law firm, Bennie is going to
accept that Mary is quitting, but things take on a very twisted path.
Mary and Bennie soon realize they must help each other to solve this
murder mystery. Can they expose the truth, save the firm, and save
Simon?
I really love the Rosato and
DiNunzio series by Lisa Scottoline. I've read most of them, and
will definitely be tracking down the others to get more of the backstory
of these amazing women. I started BOOK TITLEEXPOSED late in the afternoon, and didn't
want to put it down until much too late! Then I started again the next
morning and finished it. Scottoline shows how two people, who seem to
only be work colleagues, really are great friends. I really liked that there
was more about Bennie in this book. In previous books, Bennie seemed
kind of shallow to me, but she was fully fleshed out in EXPOSED. I also
enjoyed the fact that Mary is Italian, and so am I. Scottoline really
shows how Italians stick together and are always there for one another.
A great read, looking forward to the next one soon!
