The normal Ms. Coulter book usually has a lot of heart-stopping action, with amazing dialogue that could be perfectly normal conversations to technical F.B.I. talk and even teasing, funny moments. ENIGMA is this and so much more. As always the characters are diverse and on the most part believable -- it was just me but the vampire looking Russian actually made me laugh instead of being afraid. You have a young woman who wakes up and finds herself pregnant, scientists, politicians, an escaped con and that is only a few of the people in this book. But as usual, the transitions between characters and different cases and action is smooth and you will not get lost. If you are like me you will find yourself riding along unable to stop.
The various crimes and complex situations will keep you on the edge of your seat. The reader will get to see again the life and love of Savich and Sherlock and their son Sean. Also, a big part of the storyline is Cam Wittier and Jack Cabot, she is new to his unit and Jack is one Savich wants on his team. Romance is never a heavy element for Coulter's books but you get the feel of the closeness that slowly develops between the two, especially after she figures out he can fly a plane even one as small as the one he presents her. Their dialogue is snarky, funny and humorous until it was time to get down to F.B.I. work then they were all business. What I really thought was rather peculiar, in a good way, is the fact that Ms. Coulter gave not one but three epilogues and the last one caught me completely by surprise.
ENIGMA will give you a thrill ride with a varied and intriguing line of characters, the twisty trails that wraps up all the mysteries into one amazing finale. If you have never read any of Ms. Coulter's F.B.I. books you are missing a great series, but this one is a stand-alone and can be enjoyed while you look for all her other books.
Book Summary
When Agent Dillon Savich saves Kara Moody from a seemingly crazy man, he doesn’t realize he will soon be facing a scientist who wants to live forever and is using “John Doe” to help him. But when the scientist, Lister Maddox, loses him, he ups the stakes and targets another to take his experiments to the next level.
It’s a race against time literally as Savich and Sherlock rush to stop him and save both present and future victims of his experiments. In the meantime, Cam Wittier and Jack Cabot must track a violent criminal through the Daniel Boone National Forest. When he escapes through a daring rescue, the agents have to find out who set his escape in motion and how it all ties into the murder of Mia Prevost, the girlfriend of the president’s Chief of Staff’s only son, Saxton Hainny. It’s international intrigue at the highest levels and they know they have to succeed or national security is compromised.
