Drew and Madeline Farthering have had a quiet past six months at Farthering Place in Hampshire. There have been no mysteries or murders to solve. However, that changes with a phone call from an old school chum of Drew\'s. Hubert "Beaky" Bloodworth calls for Drew to come to Bunting\'s Nest to investigate the murder of the local Vicar on the front steps of the church. When the Fartherings arrive at Bloodworth Park Lodge, they are greeted by Beaky and his new wife, Sabrina. Both Drew and Madeline have known Sabrina for some time, as she had dated a friend of Drew\'s.

Before the investigation gets very far, an elderly lady, Miss Patterson, is also found murdered in her own living room. She was the childhood nanny for Sabrina when she lived in London. Drew tries to find a connection between the Vicar and Miss Patterson, but none seems to exist. He hits a dead end at every turn. When strange things begin to occur out on the moor, Drew turns his attention there and calls for the assistance of his long-time friend, Nick Dennison. As Drew and Nick\'s investigation moves in one direction, Madeline turns her attention in another. Will they put all the pieces of this puzzle together before another murder occurs?

Set in rural England in the post-war late 1920s, this enchanting mystery is a delightful read. Julianna Deering brings us another tale in her Drew Farthering Mystery series with MURDER ON THE MOOR. I\'ve enjoyed all of these stories, and each can stand alone as a great read, but why miss the shenanigans of these charming characters? The story line moves along at a good speed and takes several twists and turns, arriving at a surprising conclusion. Ms. Deering uses an eclectic mix of characters in the telling of this tale and captures the romantic essence of the period with her descriptions of the architecture, the motor cars, the landscape and the character\'s clothing. Pick up a copy and travel back in time with Drew and Madeline in this captivating mystery.

Book Summary

At the urgent request of an old school friend, Drew and Madeline Farthering come to Bloodworth Park Lodge in the midst of the Yorkshire moors, a place as moody and mysterious as a Brontë hero. There have been several worrisome incidents out on the moor--property destroyed, fires started, sheep and cattle scattered--and worst of all, the vicar has been found dead on the steps of the church.

Drew's friend is obviously smitten with his bride of eight months, though it's hard to imagine what she sees in the awkward man. Drew can't help wondering if her affections lie more with the man's money and estate, while her romantic interests focus on their fiery Welsh gamekeeper. As the danger grows ever closer, it's up to Drew to look past his own prejudices, determine what is really going on, and find the killer before it's too late.
