Who can't help but love a book about someone who loves to read? Never mind that most of the book is set in Scotland, which has an appeal all on its own. It's the perfect recipe for a delightful book and THE BOOKSHOP ON THE CORNER is definitely a treat!
Jenny Colgan does a beautiful job at crafting characters we can't help but fall in love with. Nina, Surinder, Lennox, Marek, and even Griffin are likable but oh so very human. Yes, they have faults but we love them despite or even perhaps because of their faults. I hope we see them appear in future books as I'm still not ready to let go of these fictional characters!
THE BOOKSHOP ON THE CORNER is a book for and about readers. From Nina's nose constantly being stuck in a book to the stacks of books in her home to the books she rescues from the closing libraries, each and every aspect of Nina's life will be familiar to readers. If you love books and reading, then THE BOOKSHOP ON THE CORNER is the perfect book for you!
Book Summary
Nina Redmond is a literary matchmaker. Pairing a reader with that perfect book is her passion… and also her job. Or at least it was. Until yesterday, she was a librarian in the hectic city. But now the job she loved is no more.
Determined to make a new life for herself, Nina moves to a sleepy village many miles away. There she buys a van and transforms it into a bookmobile—a mobile bookshop that she drives from neighborhood to neighborhood, changing one life after another with the power of storytelling.
From helping her grumpy landlord deliver a lamb, to sharing picnics with a charming train conductor who serenades her with poetry, Nina discovers there’s plenty of adventure, magic, and soul in a place that’s beginning to feel like home… a place where she just might be able to write her own happy ending.
