Emery Martin is a geek, a computer whiz that Tori secretly has the hots for. She's not sure why, he barely talks to her or at least not in complete sentences. But when he gets word that a Russian hit team has targeted Tori he immediately jumps into action. Surprising the heck out of her and really himself when the secrets start coming out and the sparks begin to fly around them and between them.

SHIFT is a fast paced cleverly written action packed read. This book is different than most F.B.I. or dark op books as we get the feeling of the underside of the good guys lives and how things just might really be. There are things held from this group who have done their jobs to get the bad guy arrested but have been kept in the dark about what happens next. Nothing is quite what it seems not even Tori, her sister Roni and certainly not Emery. There are many hidden depths to this group of men and women, and a few other law enforcement people who come into play. I'm not sure I loved Emery or Tori for that matter, but they did fit each other well and the supporting characters were varied and believable.

I will admit that due to my not reading the first book of author Sidney Bristol's Hot Rides, it took me awhile to put all the characters in place but once I did this was an amazing read. I will pick up the first book and look forward to reading the next ones in this intriguing series.
