In SAVING JAKE Sharon Sala takes us back to Blessings Georgia a place where people seem to come to heal. Blessings has a rich and somewhat eccentric population of characters some long timers and others that just seemed to end up there. One of the loveliest things you will notice are the quirky names of local businesses. Blessings is a place that welcomes all -- so enjoy your visit while reading SAVING JAKE.

Jake Lorde was coming home -- slightly worse for wear after returning from his stint in the military. Returning home Jake was looking forward to decompressing but he immediately became aware that someone else had also returned to Blessing. Someone who held a deep seated grudge against him.

Laurel Payne and her daughter Bonnie were busy trying to build themselves a home and a new life. Laurel's husband had returned home from service without a scratch. But that just shows how much we don't understand about veterans returning home from war. Laurel's husband may have been physically okay but that was on the surface. So when he killed himself everyone was caught off guard and his family had established quite a vendetta against Laurel. They saw her as the catalyst that caused the suicide. They broke all ties with Laurel and Bonnie. And unfortunately in their hatred decided to show it in decidedly crude nasty ways.

Jake was suffering from nightmares and reliving the loss of friends during his time in the military. He missed his father but was glad to be back home. He had to admit being a little puzzled by his neighbor Laurel. He didn't really know her well but it was readily apparent that she had her hands full being a single parent.

While Jake was working at fighting his own demons Laurel was working non-stop to keep her head above water. She cleaned houses and was sole caregiver for her little daughter. Laurel had no time for any social life and although she found Jake very attractive getting involved with another ex-soldier was not on her list. Thinking about Laurel brought back wonderful memories of his own mother. But Jake and Laurel were respectful neighbors who diligently tried to keep their distance. Bonnie on the other hand had different ideas. She had loved Jakes father and visited him often. Bonnie was determined to continue her visits now with Jake. She'd make sure he wasn't lonely. Life is funny like that.

SAVING JAKE is essentially a story about picking yourself up by the bootstraps and facing your demons. Sharon Sala makes us aware of the fact that there are all kinds of demons and sometimes a little help goes a long way. As usual SAVING JAKE is ripe with amazing characters that bring Blessings to life. Living in a small town isn't for everyone -- but Blessings sure sounds like a great place to put down roots. Sharon Sala reintroduces some characters from previous books based in Blessings but for the most part this story is about Jake and Laurel. Enjoy.
