Now in the small town of Falkland Islands another child has gone missing. This is the third child in three years which is extremely unusual for the small community. Catrin, feels bad about the children, but is still grieving over the loss of her children. Her ex-lover, Callum, convinces Catrin to go with him to an old wrecked ship as a diversion. What they discover there is heartbreaking, the corpse of one of the missing children. While trying to recover from this new development, Callum talks her into going out walking, they come across another child, but this one is alive. Now Catrin is the main suspect.
While Catrin is being questioned, Callum is trying hard to remember what happened as he has been known to have black outs. So Catrin is confessing when Rachel steps up to the plate and claims she did it. Little Black Lies hurt everyone.
Sharon Bolton's novel has several twists and turns. Most of them I didn't see coming. To me this is what makes a great read. There were so many twists, that at times I did have to go back and reread some parts. However, saying this, LITTLE BLACK LIES keeps your attention and is a great book.
Sharon Bolton also shows just how important friendship is. Even though these three characters had not spoken to each other for over three years, they all stepped up to the plate to help each other. I also enjoyed Bolton's description of the scenery. Made me want to make travel plans. While some of the questions still remain unanswered, LITTLE BLACK LIES is a great story. Summer is here. Image yourself sitting by the pool and reading this mystery. You won't be sorry.
Book Summary
In such a small community as the Falkland Islands, a missing child is unheard of. In such a dangerous landscape it can only be a terrible tragedy, surely...
When another child goes missing, and then a third, it's no longer possible to believe that their deaths were accidental, and the villagers must admit that there is a murderer among them. Even Catrin Quinn, a damaged woman living a reclusive life after the accidental deaths of her own two sons a few years ago, gets involved in the searches and the speculation.
And suddenly, in this wild and beautiful place that generations have called home, no one feels safe and the hysteria begins to rise.
But three islanders—Catrin, her childhood best friend, Rachel, and her ex-lover Callum—are hiding terrible secrets. And they have two things in common: all three of them are grieving, and none of them trust anyone, not even themselves.
In Little Black Lies, her most shocking and engaging suspense novel to date, Sharon Bolton will keep the reader guessing until the very last page.
