This marriage of convenience category romance from Harlequin is a sweet tale about two people who find choosing love can lead to more joy than they would have imagined. As Ginny is transported from her life in the U.S. to learn how to be mother to the next king of this country she had never heard of, she has to deal with all sorts of emotions about motherhood and partnership and co- parenting. It felt very Jane the Virgin in some ways - the navigation of roles between people who aren't committed life partners. Also telanovella-y in the way that these two adults seemingly chose to engage in sex with a stranger without protection, so they made some choices to get themselves here.
As the story progresses towards the happily ever after, the readers get more and more glimpses of Dom the human and not Dom the prince. I loved those moments in particular, especially since Ginny was not a particularly sympathetic heroine to me at all times. She had some real trust issues I wasn't entirely sure I bought. The more the hero and heroine interacted, however, the more I found myself rooting for them.
Side character wise, I really liked getting to know Dom's brother Alex and am happy to see the next book in the series is about him. He "inherits" the woman Dom was supposed to marry before Ginny, who we do get to interact with a little in this book.
I'd recommend PREGNANT WITH A ROYAL BABY for anyone looking for a sweet and fluffy read that is pure escapist fantasy.
