Jane Hughes has a pretty good life. She has a job doing the type of work that she has always wanted to do. Her boyfriend is a guy that any woman would want to have in her life. She lives in a charming cottage in a small town in Wales. Granted, she has few friends but that is the way she prefers it to be. All in all, she leads a happy life. There is only one problem. Jane Hughes is not a real person.

Five years ago, she had a much different life. Jane worked at an office job she hated but she had three friends that afforded her a decent social life. One of these friends had just had a bad relationship breakup and the rest of them felt it would be good for all of them to take a fun, relaxing vacation together. It is meant to be the trip of a lifetime to Nepal.

At first, everything goes well although there seems to be something weird going on with one of the friends. Still, the trip is fun until something happens in the middle of it all. Two of the friends come back while the other two end up dead. When all of the furor dies down; Emma becomes Jane Hughes and never looks back; not even to have contact with the other surviving friend.

Jane believes everything is going well for her in her new life until the day she receives a note that says "I know you're not Jane Hughes." It becomes clear that someone knows her secret and that her life is in danger. But who could it be?

THE LIE does not begin with a bang like some mysteries. Instead it begins with a slight hook that builds steadily into the sort of plot that you simply cannot stop reading. Many stories are woven together in a way that the threads create only one. Told in a very compelling manner, THE LIE is nearly impossible to stop reading until that final page is reached.

Be forewarned that your mind is about to be twisted and turned in ways that you have never experienced. That is what makes a good book a great one. THE LIE is much more than a book to use to pass the time. It will involve you totally in a very short span of time. Nothing is what is seems and you will not figure out what is reality and what is not until C. L. Taylor has taken you by the hand and led you to the explanation for everything.

I have to say that after reading THE LIE, this writer has gained a new fan. It would be sad if you were to miss this one.

Book Summary

Haunting and compelling, this psychological thriller is perfect for fans of Gone Girl, Girl on the Train, and Daughter.

Jane Hughes has a great boyfriend, a job in an animal shelter, and a tiny cottage in rural Wales. She's happier than she's ever been...but her life is a lie. Jane Hughes does not really exist.

Five years earlier, Jane and her best friends set off on what was supposed to be the trip of a lifetime, but it rapidly descended into a nightmare that claimed the lives of two of her friends. Ever since, Jane has tried to put the past behind her and lead a normal life. But someone out there knows the truth about what happened-and they won't stop until they've destroyed Jane and everything she loves.
