ALL CHAINED UP is one of the most exciting stories I have read in a long, long time! Right from the start, the oppression of the prison is palpable, as are Briar's disgust of the environment and her fear of the convicts. Ms. Jordan paints a chillingly realistic portrait of prison life, and it is easy to understand Briar's extreme discomfort. I was a bit concerned about a prison as the basis for a romance, but Ms. Jordan definitely knew what she was doing. The extraordinarily versatile author has crafted what might be her best book ever, regardless of the genre. ALL CHAINED UP is extremely powerful, and feels so authentic, it's almost scary. The prose is tight and crisp, the dialogues are natural and in tune with the various individuals' personalities. Knox and Briar might look like an odd pairing at first glance, but their backstories explain how both their pasts define their actions and their approach to life. Knox and Briar share an undeniable explosive chemistry, and the sex scenes are primal, wild and scorching hot. There was however an odd chapter towards the end that had me scratching my head. However compelling, it was disconcerting; it obviously sets up the action for the next instalment, and to say it looks promising is a major understatement, but it hampered the flow of the book at that point; however, it is a trifle.
ALL CHAINED UP is a very intense book, which not only depicts a meeting of souls, but also gives us a hard look at our prejudices as well as the hurdles faced by convicted felons. ALL CHAINED UP is a spectacular debut to Sophie Jordan's new Devil's Rock series!
Book Summary
There are bad boys and then there are the men of Devil’s Rock . . .
Some men come with a built-in warning label. Knox Callaghan is one of them. Danger radiates from every lean, muscled inch of him, and his deep blue eyes seem to see right through to Briar Davis’s most secret fantasies. But there’s one major problem: Briar is a nurse volunteering at the local prison, and Knox is an inmate who should be off-limits in every way.
Knox feels it too—a shocking animal magnetism that drives him to risk his own life to protect Briar’s. Paroled at last, he tries to resist her. She’s too innocent, too sweet, and she has no idea what Knox is capable of. But a single touch can lead to a kiss—and a taste . . . until the only crime is denying what feels so right
