Caden's and Makenna's story starts when the lift they are both in stops mid-way and plunges into uncomfortable silence and darkness. Neither of them is prepared for it, and Caden more so. They start talking, Caden first just to cope with his claustrophobia and also because he likes the sound of Makenna's voice. I almost have a silly crush on Caden; having previously only seen Makenna's hair and not her face, he says sweet things to her. Usually someone comes to the rescue of people stuck in a lift within a few minutes, but that doesn't happen here. Our new lift mates are stuck in there for quite a long time.
A tall, inked bad boy and a beautiful red-haired beauty, literally strangers are stuck together. We only know how gorgeous they sound, but their getting to know each other is part of the story that made me mushy. I am sure you, too, will love it. HEARTS IN DARKNESS ends with them getting rescued and a short scene post rescue, so there's the cliffhanger with loads of hope and promise. If the story was to end here and continue with the ever after left to the reader's imagination, I would definitely give them a happily ever after. A future with the beautiful couple happy, surrounded by a gaggle of children and keeping the light alive in their lives. HEARTS IN DARKNESS is warm and fuzzy and sees the characters overcome the darkness in their hearts and lives with each other's help. This is a beautiful relationship off to a gorgeous start.
Book Summary
Two strangers...
Makenna James thinks her day can't get any worse, until she finds herself stranded in a pitch–black elevator with a complete stranger. Distracted by a phone call, the pin–striped accountant catches only a glimpse of a dragon tattoo on his hand before the lights go out.
Four hours...
Caden Grayson is amused when a harried redhead dashes into his elevator fumbling her bags and cell phone. His amusement turns to panic when the power fails. Despite his piercings, tats, and vicious scar, he's terrified of the dark and confined spaces. Now, he's trapped in his own worst nightmare.
One pitch–black elevator...
To fight fear, they must reach out and open up. With no preconceived notions based on looks to hold them back, they discover just how much they have in common. In the warming darkness, attraction grows and sparks fly, but will they feel the same when the lights come back on?
