Maxum and Airi at first come off as a of an odd couple. He is on a quest to free himself from a curse and she is ... a thief and well really just a pain. She argues and questions everything. Later as the reader gets to know more about her we get to see a softer side. So as you read she will grow on you as she does Maxum.

This very creative world had the feel of alternative medieval with maybe a touch of Tolkienesque. When you add into the mix the motley crew Maxum has acquired, you have the full gambit of unusual beings. His group consists of Doisy, a cleric and healer; Dru, a spirit mage; Kyno, a half Orc and Kilon, a woman hater, but a skilled archer who comes in handy, all very interesting and diverse. The action is plentiful and starts nearly from page one, the dialogue is at times hilarious and always well written, but it was the growing relationship between Maxum and Airi that kept me going to the end. Luckily for Maxum he has a few tricks up his sleeve or she just might have gotten away.

I must admit that I have not read all of the previous books in the Immortal Brothers series (not sure where I was to miss them), but after reading this one I will be going back to pick up the ones I missed. I found BOUND IN DARKNESS a very good read with an epilogue that brings his brother and their mates together for a heartwarming conclusion. This was something which I thought was a nice touch and would love to see done with every concluding series. I can't wait to see what Ms. Frank comes up with next.
