As well as the descriptions of settings, we get some great nature photos. A bald eagle, a rainbow lake, and Old Faithful geyser are just some of the sights found by John as he keeps taking photos and trying to rejoin his parents. Plenty of wildlife lives in this huge park and John has to worry that some of it may be hungry, or that he may lose Belle.
The language is simple enough for pre-teens, and the quick changes of scene keep a reader wanting to turn the page. A WILD SPRING IN YELLOWSTONE is the first in a series called The Flash Adventures so clearly that magic camera has some more travels lined up for later. Author R. E. Janet has created a fun way for kids to learn a little about nature. I think a lot of young people would enjoy this book, and John's adventures would make a good discussion point for a class or a family.
