Andre Boroi is tall, dark, and mysterious. However, what separates him from some of Christine Feehan's other Carpathian heroes is a tender side. Even though Andre is a warrior, known tragedy and seen incredible evil, he is not dominant and rough with his mate. Andre's care and sweetness with Teagan makes DARK GHOST shine. I like that Teagan and Andre share a special ability to heal. Having something so unusual in common helps them forge a bond. The only major conflict arises over Teagan's need to retain her sense of independence and autonomy. I never get the feeling that Andre is obnoxious in his need to protect Teagan or drag her into his world. However, it is understandable for her to be extremely cautious since the world of vampires and Carpathians is new and wholly unfamiliar to her.

The bad guys in DARK GHOST are both human and vampire. For me, the human threat posed the most danger because of their unpredictability. We've seen in past books what vampires are like and what motivates them. However, the humans don't always reveal their evil nature by their physical appearance. Christine Feehan goes into graphic detail at the beginning of DARK GHOST about the atrocities committed by some humans that the heroine narrowly avoided. The horrific vignettes were perhaps meant to provide a contrast to the hero, but I believe Christine Feehan does a good job of defining the characters and conveying their complexities without having this level of detail. Andre comes across as being a fierce warrior and protector as well as a killer. I like that, in spite of how Teagan takes issue with how protective Andre is of her, she gets the difference between him and a hardened psychopath.

DARK GHOST is all about the hero for me -- strong, sympathetic, and simply stunning in his adoration of the heroine. Andre is the kind of hero that proves alpha heroes can be sweet and sexy without being a jerk. The dominant themes of love, acceptance and justice make DARK GHOST a compelling story. I look forward to the next book by Christine Feehan.
