Thelma and Elma Hochstetler are shocked beyond words. Not only are they dealing with both of their grandparents dying when a truck ran over their buggy, now their Daed just read the will and the whole family can't believe their grandparents wishes. Their grandparents have left the girls their house and their store. After they decide that they will move to Indiana, they wonder if they have made a mistake. When they get to their new house they realize it is in great need of repair and they aren't sure if they can get it all done. They both decide to give it a go and try to make the best of things.

Shortly after they arrive, they meet Joseph and Delbert. Thelma is instantly taken with Joseph but Elma doesn't really care for Delbert. Thelma involves them in a charity cake auction. Even though they completely embarrass themselves making the cake. Yet somehow, they raise the most money at the auction. Thelma starts dating Joseph the shy man who made his friend buy the cake and both of them tried to force Elma and Delbert into a relationship. Elma and Delbert try but they just aren't a match. Thelma is sure she can be married if Elma isn't also so that causes some problems. THE LOPSIDED CHRISTMAS CAKE is what brings them all together.

I've read and always enjoyed many of Wanda Brunstetter's Amish novels. She is one of my favorite authors for Amish stories. This book was written by Wanda, along with her daughter-in-law, Jean. What I like about THE LOPSIDED CHRISTMAS CAKE is that the story takes some unexpected turns. Some of the situations that the twins get into are quite funny and I was laughing out loud.

The Brunstetters give us a look into the Amish way of life and show us that not all Amish people are the same, even identical twins. The recipe for the famous "lopsided cake" is included at the end of THE LOPSIDED CHRISTMAS CAKE. This is a very quick read and I was left wanting more. I hope there is a sequel in the future. Throughout most of the story, I felt like I was right there with the twins dealing with life's ups and downs. I love how the authors chose a story line that we don't usually get in Amish stories. Twins in their 30's who aren't married and living alone. This was the perfect way to spend the afternoon.
