Where do I start with this review? There is so much emotion in this book. I knew something I was not going to like was going to happen in this story, and if you follow J. R. Ward, you know too. Even with knowing about that I was excited to start reading this book. THE SHADOWS brings us one heck of an emotional ride. Love is gained and lost in the most painful way. It makes many of the Brotherhood wonder about many things, especially the brother Rhage.

This book revolves around two brothers and the women destined for them. Trez and Selena's relationship is not a conventional love story and happy ending. Love is strong but does it always win? The answer to this question is yes and no. In this story you get both sides of the coin. Only the answers are not the way we want it to go. Be prepared for some strong pulls on your heartstrings and make sure to have that box of tissue nearby. It was nice seeing Selena do the things that she has always wanted before she could no longer do them. iAm and maichen also find their way towards a happy ever after.

We also get to see some interesting developments amongst some of the others in this world. Layla and Xcor, Luchas, and so many more have things to say and will not be ignored. This book is an intense read. It will make you cry and laugh at times. The Brotherhood's camaraderie is strong and shines through. While parts of this book are sad it shows readers the friendships between the Brothers and how strong it is. Life goes on no matter what happens, good or bad.

This book is a good addition to this series. I enjoyed watching the brothers Trez and iAm deal with what fate has thrown at them and how it affects all of the others in their world. I was quickly lost in their story and did not want it to end.
