I love how Cathleen Armstrong sprinkles in little clues, so subtly, through out the book that lets you know Sarah was avoiding something and someone. She keeps letting the phone ring, admitting she isn't ready to deal with the situation. Hmmm, that made me want to keep reading. And if that isn't complicated enough there's a gut-wrenching secondary plot that will pull at your heartstrings. ONE MORE LAST CHANCE is a beautiful celebration of embracing change in order to live life to the fullest. Even if you don't like change, like Sarah! sometimes change can be just what you needed.
Chris Reed is the new owner of the Dip-n-Dine Diner and would love to change things on the menu. Yet everything that he tries is consistently vetoed by his cook. Wait a minute, isn't he the owner? Can't he change whatever he wants in HIS diner? When he suddenly finds himself caring for his seven year old niece, he comes to realize that sometimes change is good. He takes over the diner with the hope of turning it into a destination restaurant—a plan that might be ruined by his stuck-in- the-mud employees. Some of the patrons want change and they let him know, but the employees fight him every step of the way.
As it turns out, the winds of change are blowing into Last Chance--just not in the ways that Sarah or Chris might expect. With the same strong writing and fascinating characters that won fans over for her debut novel, Welcome to Last Chance, Cathleen Armstrong invites readers back to Last Chance for a soul-searching story of two people navigating the twists and turns of small-town life. What you think your life is going to be can sometimes be completely different once the dust settles.
I really liked ONE MORE LAST CHANCE and I think I liked it better than Welcome to Last Chance, the first book in the series. I do think at the beginning Sarah was a bit juvenile towards Chris. As for her former boyfriend, I wanted to slap him half the time - he is just so annoying!!! But it was fun overall, to make another trip to Last Chance and see how everyone was doing. And the little teaser excerpt for book three had me purchasing it before I finished this one. When an author can capture my attention like that, I read every book they have written. Can I go visit Last Chance? What a heart warming town Cathleen has created, a place I would love to call home.
Book Summary
Sarah Cooley has come home to Last Chance, New Mexico, for one reason--because it doesn't change. After an engagement gone bad with a man who wanted to change everything about her, Sarah is more than ready for the town whose motto may as well be, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Chris Reed, on the other hand, wants nothing more than to spark some change in the little town. As the new owner of the Dip 'n' Dine, he's shaking things up to draw folks from all over the Southwest into his restaurant.
As it turns out, the winds of change are blowing into Last Chance--just not in the ways that Sarah or Chris might expect.
