Charles Ingham, 6th Earl of Mowbray, head of the family, has raised his four D's, his lovely daughters, Daphne, Diedre, DeLacy, and Dulcie. His wife, Felicity left to be with surgeon Lawrence Pierce, never returning to Cavendon Hall or her family.
His son and heir Miles, works hard to keep the beloved estate in good repair. In those times future heirs dominate their destinies and choices. Miles is and has been in love with Cecily Swann since childhood when they were best friends, later sweethearts when they visited the attics together to discover sex. However, it was not possible for the future Earl to marry out of his class. The suitable pick was Clarissa Meldrew, daughter of Lord Meldrew. Their marriage was unhappy, no heirs were produced, Clarissa hated Cavendon and moved to town into a home her father bought for her. The love affair of Miles and Cecily continues as Clarissa refuses to give Miles a divorce.
The vivid descriptions of events, details of the beautiful clothing worn by the ladies, the presentations of the plentiful food and wines was enjoyable. The love at first sight between handsome beyond belief, actor, James Brentwood and Dulcie was sweet and my favorite. As the years pass Cavendon Hall, one of the great stately homes of England sees many changes. There is much intertwining of the Inghams and Swanns, the family saga continues and the question is posed, when will the next sequel be? I have a special place in my library already reserved for it. Thank you Mrs. Bradford for another winner.
Book Summary
Cavendon Women, the stunning sequel to Barbara Taylor Bradford’s Cavendon Hall follows the Inghams’ and the Swanns’ journey from a family weekend in the summer of 1926 through to the devastation of the Wall Street crash of 1929.
It all begins on a summer weekend in July of 1926 when, for the first time in years, the earl has planned a family weekend. As the family members come together, secrets, problems, joys, and sorrows are revealed. As old enemies come out of the shadows and the Swanns’ loyalty to the Ingham gets tested in ways none of them could have predicted, it’s up to the Cavendon women to band together and bring their family into a new decade, and a new way of life.
