Her recovery was difficult, particularly on an emotional level. Because of her depression and anxiety issues, she was packed off to gothic Sexton Academy in Vermont. As private boarding schools go, it is not such a bad place. She has her own studio apartment and room service if she wants it.

She immediately meets Carden McDowell and Eli McKinnon, both very hot guys that seem to show quite a bit of interest in her. From the first night there, Reece is thrust into some of the strangest things that have ever happened to her, and that is just the start of it all. Carden and Eli slowly break it to her that she is really much more special than she knows. They want to help her reach her potential.

Reece thinks they are insane and pretty much tells them so. Then, she begins to see that she is different. Not only that, but she is falling in love with Eli. Neither of these things has to be bad. Her biggest problem, however, is going to be staying alive long enough to enjoy her new life. A dark force is at work in Sexton Academy, and it wants Reece.

HEX is an exciting new entry into the supernatural genre for young adults. I found the plot to be quite compelling and the characters were so three dimensional that I felt I could sit down and enjoy a pizza with them. Mackenzie L. McGuire has created an alternate reality that I wanted to stay in for a very long time. Her readers will find a combination of familiar personalities in the characters at Sexton Academy. You have all known people such as Reece and her friends that you will meet. It is a little like going back to high school in that regard.

Aside from the intriguing tale that is shared, HEX offers plenty of suspense and chills that readers of all ages will love. Be forewarned that you will have a very difficult time putting it down once you have begun reading. The chapters move fluidly into one another, which kept me glued to the pages while other things went ignored. I always love discovering terrific new authors and was thrilled to find that HEX is the first entry in a series. You can bet that I will be watching intently for the next installment of the Saxton Academy series!
