The family that had vowed to remain together has been separated because of Klaus' past foolish behaviour, but an extremely powerful and unforeseen enemy brings the Mikaelson siblings back together in THE ORIGINALS: THE RESURRECTION, the exciting third installment in this fabulous series. This time, Klaus is not the one to open Pandora's Box, but his dreams of grandeur don't help matters.
Elijah and Rebekah feature more prominently in THE ORIGINALS: THE RESURRECTION; what splendid characters they all are, as well as Lisette, a particular favourite of mine. I love that the female characters, vampires or not, are as at least as strong and complex as the men. and Julie Plec's Originals definitely don't sparkle: they are unapologetically true to their vampire nature, which makes them more compelling and realistic, if I may say so. The enemy at the forefront in THE ORIGINALS: THE RESURRECTION is particularly innovative; the fertile and wondrous imagination of the author seems to know no bounds. Ms. Plec adds a lot to the paranormal world. The tone and pacing of THE ORIGINALS: THE RESURRECTION is different from the two previous books. This installment is more suspenseful and has a slightly Gothic atmosphere at times, and altered states of mind are described in a most intriguing fashion. I also thought it was very clever to have Rebekah travel to Mystic Falls, the original setting for The Vampire Diaries.
I must mention that Julie Plec will have a special place in my personal records. I have read all three books in this excellent series each in one sitting. Once I began reading, there was no way I could stop! THE ORIGINALS: THE RESURRECTION kept me enthralled again from page one. While it can be read as a standalone, anyone who reads one book of this exciting series will want to read every one. I fervently hope that The Originals, which is meant as a trilogy, will have more installments because there is so much more to be told about the fascinating Mikaelsons, and there are still 1000 years in the lives of the Originals. The Originals is definitely one of the best vampire series around; don't miss it!
Book Summary
Family is power. The Original Vampire family swore it to each other a thousand years ago. They pledged to remain together always and forever. But even when you're immortal, promises are hard to keep.
Klaus, Elijah and Rebekah Mikaelson had won it all, only to lose it again by 1788. Control of New Orleans is split between the vampires and the werewolves, much to Klaus's displeasure. In a dangerous attempt to reclaim his home, Klaus decides to build a vampire army to take out the werewolves once and for all. If he can't have love, then he'll settle for power.
Elijah lets his brother take the reins as he turns his attentions to a beautiful and mysterious woman. But Rebekah has had enough of her brothers' love of bloodshed and begins a journey to find her first home and the key to her family's immortality. As the battle rages on, the siblings must come together and fight for what they believe in most: family.
