A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S ROMP is Book two in Katie MacAlister's "Matchmaker in Wonderland" series about the Ainslie Brothers. Even though I haven't read the previous book in this series, I was still able to enjoy this story. A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S ROMP has an easy charm and screwball comedy quality that many Katie MacAlister books have.

Although an unlikely combination, a friend's quest for vengeance and an archeology reality TV show make for an interesting, and often hilarious, mix. Lorina Liddel is not what she claims to be. Lorina has very private and well- intentioned reasons for appearing on the reality show Dig Britain!. I like how Lorina is an average woman going above and beyond out of loyalty to a friend. She is flawed but sympathetic. All of the supporting characters in A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S ROMP are amusing, if not utterly delightful. Gunner's teenaged daughter Cressy is a trip and adds a lot of humor to the story. Seeing the kind of father Gunner is to Cressy also adds another layer to his personality.

I love how Gunner goes about wooing Lorina. He keeps bringing his "A" game, being as charming and as helpful as he can -- all to the complete frustration of Lorina. She's trying to be sneaky and accomplish her mission, and Gunner keeps throwing a spotlight on her. The chemistry between them is palpable and I like how Gunner has to work hard to win Lorina over. I also like that he turns out to have hidden depths to his character. Although he doesn't quite know what Lorina's game is, he can tell that she's hiding something. He also picks up on the fact that she's dated some jerks along the way.

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S ROMP is charming, sexy, and laugh-out- loud funny. Katie MacAlister gives enough twists and turns in A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S ROMP to shake things up without confusing the plot. Gunner and Lorina make a good team and I was happy to have an epilogue. I look forward to going back and reading Book one in the series. I eagerly await the next Katie MacAlister book!

Book Summary

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Importance of Being Alice comes the second Ainslie Brothers romance, where finding love means falling head over heels...

Lorina Liddel is terrified of embarrassing herself on national TV as the face of Dig Britain!, a new archeological reality show. Lorina would much rather keep her head down and her hands in the dirt underneath Ainslie Castle, but her on-screen partner is proving to be a major distraction.

Brother to the castle’s current lord, privileged, perfectly sculpted Gunner Ainslie is a sure bet to keep viewers glued to their screens. Lorina intends to keep the ladies’ man focused on the job at hand, but Gunner is confident he’ll soon have the beauty falling into his bed.

When an unexpected find turns the academic dig into an all-out treasure hunt, Lorina and Gunner get swept up in the excitement. But when their steamy tryst is caught on camera, it’ll take more than an award-winning performance to get them out of the hole they’re in.
