The warlike climate in BOUND BY FLAMES is intense, violent, and also helps define relationships between characters. The main enemy is never really in question, but the direction the heroes take in fighting the enemy is less sure. Jeaniene Frost does a great job in BOUND BY FLAMES of peeling back layers of Vlad's psyche to try and explain the man he is and why he is so protective of Lelia. This book shows Vlad's personality from all angles and he is a more sympathetic character in BOUND BY FLAMES than I have ever found him to be in previous books.

Lelia becomes a stronger character with each book in the Night Prince series. Her struggle to find her place in Vlad's vampire world is as interesting as all the good vs. evil missions they find themselves a part of. She develops a toughness over the course of the book, while still being very likable and easy to relate to. Her relationship with Vlad is similar to others in which an older man has taken a younger woman as a wife. There is a learning curve, and I like how their relationship matures and they learn more about each other by the end of BOUND BY FLAMES.

BOUND BY FLAMES is sexy, exciting, and fraught with danger at every turn. You learn more about both main characters and like them a little more than you already did. I can't wait to see what happens in the next installment of the Night Prince series!
