Carly comes from a wealthy family. Carly wants to prove that she can make it on her own. Her passion is art. Carly buys several art studios where she can display art works of both famous and not so famous people.

Carly's newest project is to host an exhibit for a painter that she has discovered. It seems that the paintings are from 1905 and painted by a woman whose husband felt that she should not be painting and selling her art. The artist also happens to be the great grandmother of her best friend Ellie. The only problem is that she can't display it in her studio in New York, she has to display it in the hometown of Ellie's grandmother.

Ford is going home to his hometown. Ford has kept a secret from his family as to what he was really doing while he was gone. The family thinks that he was just in the service. But he really was on secret missions to protect people from Al Quida. Coming home is very hard for him. He feels out of place and doesn't know if he wants to stay in the small town. His mother, Grace is sure that she can keep him at home. Her plan is for him to take over the town newspaper that has been in the family forever.

Grace is a writer on the paper, but after taking a fall down the steps, she asks Ford to take over interviewing Carly on the new exhibit that she is hosting. Ford and Carly hit it off. Both do not want to make any kind of commitment to each other. Carly has her art studios and Ford doesn't know what he wants.

I have read several of Mariah Stewart's book. Each is just has great as the one before it. Mariah Stewart has a style of writing that grips you from the first page and just keeps you reading until the end. ON SUNSET BEACH is part of the Chesapeake Diaries series. I have always loved small town books, and the way ON SUNSET BEACH is written makes me wonder if Ms. Stewart lives in a small town.

I enjoyed ON SUNSET BEACH and can't wait for the next one in the series.

Book Summary

From New York Times bestselling author Mariah Stewart comes a captivating and heartwarming new novel in her beloved Chesapeake Diaries contemporary romance series—perfect for fans of Barbara Freethy, Robyn Carr, and Susan Mallery.

Carly Summit’s name couldn’t be more fitting, since in life she always lands on top. She grew up wealthy and privileged in a tony Connecticut town, opened her own gallery in New York City, and is about to make art world history displaying previously unknown works by a prominent twentieth-century painter. No wonder she possesses a can-do attitude that can’t be soured. Ford Sinclair is another story. A military career in war-torn Africa, where he witnessed unspeakable violence and suffering, has left him haunted and deeply cynical. Now he’s looking for a way to forget and a place to belong. He hopes to find both back home in St. Dennis.

When Carly is forced to move the premiere of her new exhibit from her Manhattan gallery to St. Dennis, and Ford agrees to temporarily take over the town’s paper, the two cross paths. While Ford is confounded by Carly’s unflappable good cheer, he can’t help being drawn to her. And undaunted by Ford’s restless heart, Carly sees a man worth caring for. But when a late night phone call takes Ford back to Africa, Carly’s left to wonder if the pull of the past and its ghosts will prove stronger than the promise of a future with her.
