There is a hostage situation and the Dallas SWAT team is sent to the premises. As the team SUV leaves the compound, investigative reporter Mackenzie "Mac" Stone follows their van. Mac has been watching them for 2 days. She's dying to do a story on the elite team since a disreputable character told her a most unbelievable story about the officers; there seems to be something fishy about the media darlings. They are all over the place doing good deeds, they never seem to mess up, and yet nobody knows anything about them; access to their compound is denied everyone. During the hostage crisis, Mac gets into trouble, and SWAT team Commander Gage Dixon decides something must be done about her snooping before she discovers things that should remain undisclosed to the public. He will grant her interviews and she will be able to do a story on the team, otherwise she will act on her own and compromise the fact that they are all werewolves. HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF is the first instalment of Paige Tyler's new series Special Wolf Alpha Team, and she's off to an very impressive start! Ms. Tyler has built a solid premise for a new paranormal series that is entirely different from her X-Ops series. HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF features a great cast of characters: Gage is a splendid leader, he's a true Alpha male -- after all, he must keep his pack in check -- but he is a gentleman as well, and a very reasonable man. Mac is strong-willed, but not unduly pigheaded; they both act like professionals, they are willing to listen and admit they made mistakes. They are attracted to each other, but they realise they have to work on their respective trust issues.

I really like how Ms. Tyler never succumbs to excesses: even though the heroes are werewolves, they are all entirely believable; a bit wild at times, but fighting to control their animal nature for the better good. HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF is a multi-layered story and we get a good feel how both SWAT teams and journalist crews work. HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF IS action-packed, fast paced, very well written, and I appreciate how Ms. Tyler takes care of little details that matter, such as a birth control issues. I love the camaraderie between the wolves, as well as between Mac and her photographer-friend Zac; it feels real. The author allows the romance between Mac and Gage to slowly build: from mistrust to flirtatious banter on to admitting their attraction, and acting on it intelligently. I do hope the next book features Mike Taylor, one of Gage's team mates; I'd really like to read his story; he's yet another compelling character. HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF is yet another demonstration of the immense talent of Paige Tyler.

Book Summary

They're tight
They're on target
They're as alpha as men can get

The Dallas SWAT team is hiding one helluva secret...they're a pack of wolf shifters.

The team of elite sharpshooters is ultra-secretive-and also the darlings of Dallas. This doesn't sit well with investigative journalist Mackenzie Stone. They must be hiding something...and she's determined to find out what.

Keeping Mac at a distance proves impossible for SWAT team commander Gage Dixon. She's smart, sexy, and makes him feel alive for the first time in years. But she's getting dangerously close to the truth-and perilously close to his heart...
