I was happy to find that Jase wasn't a one-dimensional playboy. Although he is a big-shot NFL player, he had a difficult childhood with his father and didn't have much security until his brother Ryder took control. Ryder was more of a positive male role model than his father. I like that he reveals his past to Avery and makes himself vulnerable to her. I also like that he recognizes that she is different from the women who might want him for what he is rather than who he is. For me, this kind of realization adds depth to his character.

I like stories like THE BILLION DOLLAR PLAYER, in which the hero pursues the heroine. The flirting and sexual tension adds to the enjoyment of the story. I like that the story is told from both points-of-view. Without that window into Avery's thoughts, she might not seem as sympathetic. I loved Jase, but it's understandable that Avery is so cautious about giving Jase a chance, given her romantic past. The conflict comes mainly from their own insecurities and a trouble-making teammate, but I was glad that any misunderstandings did not last too long. I hate when misunderstandings last for almost an entire book.

THE BILLION DOLLAR PLAYER sizzles and has a strong emotional pull. I like the support Jase got from fellow teammate Carson. I would be interested in reading a story about how he and his wife Gena got together. I look forward to reading the previous story, as well as the next installment about Jase's brother Luke.
