INTO DARKNESS is the much-awaited finale to the Night Prowler series, an UF/PNR saga about the Ikati, shifters who have been forced to live in secret to protect themselves from humanity. Book six starts fourteen years after the events of Darkness Bound, when The Flash occurred in Lima, Peru at one of the last Ikati compounds, killing thousands of humans and leading to the loss of so many Ikati. The Flash triggered wars and great turmoil, famines, scorched sky and barren earth.

Lumina Bohn is an Abberant, a being with supernatural powers, who has grown up trying to hide in plain sight from the oppressive Imperial Federation that now rules humanity. She has dreamed for years about Magnus, another Aberrant who she has never met in real life- steamy and arousingly lovely dreams, although she is confused by Magnus calling her Hope, instead of Lumina.

The IF's Grand Minister uncovers Lumina as an Aberrant, for which the penalty is lethal harvesting for use in The Imperial Federation's evil plans. Her exposure triggers her deadly and astonishing powers, but Dissenters help her escape New Vienna. She's astonished to be met on the other side of the city wall by Magnus, her dream lover, who must now help Lumina escape an international manhunt.

Magnus has made a life for himself locating a rescuing the outcast Ikati called Abarrents from capture and torture. Magnus and Lumina have a smoldering chemistry that Magnus is heroically trying to resist due to a secret past. A shocking revelation threatens the remaining Ikati, however, and Magnus and Lumina must work side by side in a desperately risky race save their species from extinction.

INTO DARKNESS contains an intricate plot with its many elaborate mysteries revealed as the book progresses. The wrap-up to this series is deeply satisfying, with its many poignant revelations. I will admit that I am such a huge fan of the series that I did not want it to end. When the plot began to crescendo to the final dénouement, I put the book aside for a little while, because I knew that reading the final page would mean the end of the grand saga. I could only put it off for about 15 minutes, though, before I was compelled to dive back into this rich and explosive finale.
