Bree Nichols and her German Shepherd Sampson are part of a K-9 search and rescue team in the rugged wilderness of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Her best friend Naomi, and Naomi's dog Charlie, join her as they track and find hunters and lost children who loose their way. Bree has also been looking for the small plane that went down with her husband and four year old son in it for over a year. She knows that she needs to let go of the search, accept their deaths, and get on with her life, but a part of her just can't stop searching for the missing plane.

How could God be so cruel to take her family from her? She doesn't believe in God and all of her friends keep hoping she will allow Him into her life and accept what her life has become. She is obsessed with finding the plane wreckage and her friends are very worried about her.

At first I was annoyed with Bree's reluctance to speak her mind like she used to but the explanation for that was yet to come. . WITHOUT A TRACE is such a good read with twists and turns I didn't expect at all. The characters are very real and I felt like I was right there with them searching. The villain was such a surprise! I did not expect that at all.

All is not well in the little town and when an acquaintance turns up dead and clues point to murder, Bree begins a journey to find answers that only lead to more questions. In this tight knit community, suddenly friends become suspects and the truth may be more shocking than anyone realized.

WITHOUT A TRACE is an enjoyable Christian mystery, with good characters and a beautiful, well-described setting. What I liked most about WITHOUT A TRACE is that it ties in both mystery and faith. Throughout the story you see how Bree's faith develops. The story also contains moments of sadness, grief, happiness, and suspense. I got pulled into the story & characters and never wanted to put the book down.

I was flipping the pages late into the night without realizing how much time had gone by. I fell in love with the characters, and enjoyed the intrigue of a good mystery, as well as the heartwarming tales of family and friends woven throughout. Now I want to read the rest of this series.
