Life in suburbia has continued as normal since the zombies took over the major urban cities. Sure, there are walls, fences, and extra security in Salem, Oregon, but teenager Courtney Hart continues to live life as normal. She still goes to school, works her job at Bully Burger, and tries to keep her drug dealing hidden from her father. Unfortunately, the zombies are starting to change even if the civilians of Salem are not. Will Courtney survive when things start changing in ZOMBURBIA?

Courtney is not the easiest heroine to like. She's got an ambitious plan to rid the world of the zombie infection, but in the meantime is selling the drug, Vitamin Z. Vitamin Z is made of zombie brains (which immediately made me go ewwww!) and has some scary side effects. However, Adam Gallardo shakes Courtney's world up so thoroughly and completely that I couldn't help but feel just a smidgen of sympathy for her by the conclusion. Yes, she makes some horrid decisions but she more than pays for each and every one of them. Courtney definitely matures the hard way and it will be interesting to see how her personality evolves as a result of the horrific challenges she faces in ZOMBURBIA.

ZOMBURBIA is a refreshingly original take on the aftermath of the zombie apocalypse. Adam Gallardo envisions a world in which non-infected persons have gone back to the business of living, loving, and making bad choices. I can't wait to see what happens when the second book comes out!

Book Summary

Lifeless. Slow-moving. Brain-dead. Welcome To Zomburbia.

My name is Courtney Hart, and I’m here to tell you about things that suck. Being born in a podunk town like Salem, Oregon, for one. Living in a world infested with zombies? That, too. And the meat heads I go to school with? I think I’d actually take the undead over them most days. But I have a plan to get out of here and move to New York. I just have to keep selling Vitamin Z along with your fries at The Bully Burger. The secret ingredient? Zombie brains.

I’ve noticed things are getting even worse lately, if that's even possible. The zombies seem to be getting smarter and faster. If I can avoid being arrested, eaten by shufflers, or catching the eye of some stupid boy, I should be able to make it through finals week still breathing. . .
