The majority of YARN OVER MURDER focuses on the fire and it's effects on the book's characters from an on-the-ground perspective perhaps only a Coloradan could give. Maggie Sefton does a very nice job of bringing us into the experience of living through a nearby natural catastrophe. The mystery for main character Kelly Flynn to solve is still present, but it is not really forefront until the last third of the book. The excitement and tension caused by the wildfire makes up for it, in my opinion.

I absolutely do not recommend reading YARN OVER MURDER as your first Maggie Sefton Knitting Mystery however. If you are not a staunch fan of the series you will likely find the first chapter somewhat bewildering due mainly to the flood of characters you meet. Even with the Cast of Characters page included before you read the first page of the story, it will be daunting to try and keep people straight. Even though I had read one of the earlier books I found it more a chore than a joy to plow through that first chapter. Once past that, though I enjoyed the book a great deal.

If you have been reading the books faithfully, you will have a wonderful ride ahead of you as Kelly and friends battle through the wildfire and suspicions of murder while trying to maintain their normal lives.

YARN OVER MURDER was worth the wait after book eleven's cliffhanger, and I am eager to read book thirteen. In the meantime, I can always go back and read those books I missed along the way. I can depend on Maggie Sefton to provide an enjoyable and exciting experience.
