Tess and her comrades travel to the city of Anahar. Their purpose in going there is twofold. Tess and Sara, one of her five companions, seek answers from the city's temple, where they hope the forgotten Mysteries of their Ilduin birthright will be illuminated. They will also join an Anari uprising and face trained legions of Bozandari warriors who've enslaved the Anari people for generations. But a darker power is rising and recruiting henchmen. Chaos is seeking to end its exile and return to the world that left it an outcast. Our band of six not-so-merry wanderers must not only fight the evil corporeal, but also take a long, hard look inward at what hides deep within before they can face what lies ahead.
This book follows last year's SHADOWS OF MYTH as the second book in Lee's Ilduin Trilogy. As a traditional fantasy of good versus evil, guilt and redemption, love and longing, loss and salvage, it's sure to be a hit with Luna's ever- growing fan base. I wouldn't recommend picking it up without first reading the companion volume. The back story is pretty much a must-read. Once again, Rachel Lee presents us with a fascinating mythology and story arc. No surprise that she remains a fan favorite.
Book Summary
For Tess Birdsong and her companions there will be no warm homecoming. The death of one evil exposed the beating, seething heart of another far more dangerous power. Together they must go to Anahar, to help free the Anari people from their enslavers, and purge the darkness in their own hearts. But that ancient city holds more than the key to Anari liberation. In its temple lie the secrets of the Ilduin, women of almost godlike power.
Tess, who remembers nothing of her past, is terrified by the power of her Ilduin blood. But Tess's mind conceals more than fear. There is war, and pain, and death, and anguished grief. And somehow she must face it all again, guided only by the shocking secrets of a temple as old as time itself...
