The small town of Stony Mill, Indiana, is expanding with the influx of yuppies from the city, and while Maggie O'Neil isn't particularly impressed by the expansion, some of the new businesses are intriguing. On her way to her hated job, she finds herself inexplicably drawn to Enchantments, an antique shop owned by Felicity Down. Maggie is surprised when Felicity offers her a job, which turns out to be fortuitous when she's fired for showing up late to work...again.

Despite the fact that Felicity admits she's a witch, the two become good friends. When Felicity comes under suspicion in the death of her estranged sister, Maggie is sure Felicity is innocent. Though Maggie doesn't really believe in the New Age mysticism that is Felicity, she can't deny the voices she's been hearing and the emotions she's been sensing. Reluctant to embrace her inner witch, Maggie is still determined to find the killer and save her friend, and if she's getting clues from the spirits, so be it.

Madelyn Alt has written a fun, witty who-done-it in THE TROUBLE WITH MAGIC. The first book in the new Bewitching Mystery series, it holds its own in the paranormal mystery genre. The characters are likable, the story flows easily and the mystery and mystical elements are believable. I have a feeling this is going to be a hit!
