The main character, Katy, is a young witch who has a slew of lessons to learn about life, love, and the magic that surrounds her. The night before the quarter year holiday celebration called Beltane, Katy's friends go on a fairy hunt. Katy finds a box with a message that allows her a wish, unfortunately she doesn't believe it, and doesn't realize she has used it, until it is too late. Not all hope is lost though, as Artie supplies her with ways out of each wish she makes. Wish after wish Katy learns that things are the way they are for a reason; however, the Fairy Queen has other plans for Katy and her fairy.

Molly Cochran has written several different novels, in many genres. WISHES is a novella from her Legacy series. The story is smooth and her plot is superb, though there are several plots within the story, they all work well together and lead Katy to grow as a person throughout. The characters are well written and only assist in the lessons to be learned. Each character has its own tone and personality. They hold Katy to the standards any friend should be held to; loyalty, humor, and condolences, when needed.

WISHES is written for a younger audience, which is obvious by the easy word choice and high school drama. The simplicity of the story and dialogue leave you wanting more, but what it lacks in wording it makes up in plot and design. Molly Cochran has a way of grabbing on to the young adult tone and painting a scene that resembles the youth in which it describes. Over all, WISHES is a great Young Adult read.
